Jim Leyritz was arrested in Florida on DUI and vehicular homicide charges, police said Friday.
Leyritz, who was celebrating his 44 th birthday in a bar district in Fort Lauderdale, was booked on two counts of drunken driving.According to police, a car driven by Leyritz, hit another car at an intersection early Friday morning.
Leyritz was traveling northbound when he passed a red light and crashed with a westbound car at around 3:30 a.m., Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Kathy Collins said, according to the Sun-Sentinel of Fort Lauderdale.
The driver of the westbound car, a 30-year-old woman, was ejected from her car and pronounced dead at Broward General Medical Center, according to the newspaper.
